BMW is a lot easier to say than the full German name, Bayerische Motoren Werke, which means “Bavarian Motor Works” in English. Founded in 1917, BMW is a German automobile, motorcycle, and engine manufacturing company. It is also the owner of the Mini car brand, as well as being the parent company of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Despite being founded in 1917, BMW didn’t start producing automobiles until 1928. In 1917, BMW was an aircraft manufacturing firm, who was forced to then stop making aircraft engine production due to the Versailles Armistice Treaty after WWI (1918). Today, BMW makes luxury vehicles and is a testament to German engineering.
